小女凯特（蒂娜·菲），年已三十七，至今未嫁，事业成功，今年终于打算升级当单亲妈妈。不料，人算不如天算，收养代理公司找了，人工授精试了，凯特这才发现作为高龄产妇，自己的受孕机率甚至...小于百万分之一！走投无路之下，凯特不得不尝试最后的可能性：转投代理孕母的“怀抱”。虽然10万美金的代孕费比雇佣杀手的价格还高，但光出钱不出力就能得来宝宝，对于工作繁忙的凯特来说，不失为简单便捷之法。
在代孕中心老板莎菲（西格妮·韦弗）的大力推荐下，经过精挑细选，金发的安吉（艾米·伯勒尔）荣升为孕母人选。果然，安吉很快就“不负众望”地怀上了宝宝。如今万事俱备，凯特只用等着在孩子出生之前，读读育儿经、收拾收拾婴儿房，最多不过提前忧心一下宝贝未来上哪家幼儿园。
可凯特的如意算盘又一次失灵！没隔几天，无家可归的安吉就干脆自动搬来了凯特的住处。可乐、薯条、巧克力...，安吉吃的全是垃圾食品，听的全是脏话饶舌音乐，动不动就把吃过的口香糖到处乱粘，还在浴室大捣乱，本身就像个没长大的3岁小屁孩。而对于一心想把安吉改造成“模范妈妈”的凯特，这些恶习随时都能让她一个头两个大！只要9个月，可爱的宝宝就能降临人世，可在拥有自己的孩子之前，凯特必须先得打起十二分精神，学会照顾好家里那个随时爆发的“大小孩”！

After learning from the steely head (Sigourney Weaver) of their surrogacy center that Angie is pregnant, Kate goes into precision nesting mode: reading childcare books, baby-proofing the apartment and researching top pre-schools. An unstoppable force meets an immovable object as structured Kate tries to turn vibrant Angie into the perfect expectant mom.
